We are excited to announce the introduction of a new format & scoring system specifically designed for our Wednesday Men’s Club at Trafalgar. Thanks to this unique web based program players can track their individual and team performance and we now have the ability to display live scoring on the club TV's! (I imagine some people will be happier to read that than others!) This program has been very well received at Burlington, Brantford, Beverley, Dundas Valley, Glendale, North Halton, and Islington to name a few.
The idea behind the program is simple... the more you play - the better it is for you and your team. Teams will do battle in a season-long round robin with the winners of each weekly match earning 10 points, 5 points per team if there is a tie and 0 for teams that lose. The most important aspect of the scoring is participation - teams receive 1 point for each participant regardless of their performance as long as they reach the minimum number of players required to post a team score.
As in the past, it is still a nine hole event and only your score for the front nine is counted. The difference from the past is that members can participate at any time during the day on Wednesday starting May 6th. You do not have to play with your team members but your score and participation affect your team’s results. There will still be awards for total points, low gross and low net as has always been the case on Wednesday. A dinner (the first is a roast beef carvery) will be available for anyone who wishes to stay and watch the results unfold on the television in the lounge. There will be 8 teams with 12 participants on each team who are selected by the organizing committee. The cost to participate on any scheduled Wednesday is $6.50 per player. Rules and regulations will be available in the Pro Shop.
One of the hi-lights of the program is the actual real-time scoring. As the Pro Shop staff enters scores throughout the day, the standings, individual results and Team vs. Team information is updated in real-time on the Internet. Players who aren't able to play that week or those poor souls stranded at work until later in the day can log onto the league web site (www.golfscoring.net/trafalgar) to see how their team is doing. Another bonus is the program actually maintains a separate league handicap so you can stop worrying that each team is balanced with an equal number of liars, lowlifes, sandbaggers and cheats... handicaps are automatically updated and applied based solely on your league scores.
To really make this work we need some enthusiastic, if not qualified, captains so if you would like to head up a team this year please speak with Fraser in the pro shop. Captains can rest easy -the skills required to effectively head up a team are few that most of you should easily fit the bill - we need you to play on a regular basis and because success in this format relies heavily on participation, you have to rally the troops. Quite simply... the more people who play... the better it is for the team.
We are very excited about this program and looking forward to a great year. If you have any questions please speak to one of us in the shop and please remember to check the website often. There will be periodic updates.
